About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center announced a sole-source justification on August 18, 2026, for Fiber Reinforced Polymer Structural Components Tooling and Sample Parts Production, with a capability statement deadline of August 20, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. Central Time. The agency intends to award to PROTO LABS, INC. under FAR 12.102(a), though it will evaluate submitted capabilities to determine whether to conduct the procurement competitively; the Government retains sole discretion to proceed with competition based on responses received.
The requirement supports NASA Ames Research Center's ARMADAS (Modular Robotic Structural Assembly) research program for HSMD Moon Base technology development. The scope comprises a single-cavity injection mold tool for a structural panel component ("panel_border") and an initial production lot of 500 injection-molded units in Nylon 12 (Grilamid TR 55) or approved equivalent transparent thermoplastic. The part envelope is approximately 12.0 in × 12.0 in × 0.63 in, with material tolerance of ±0.003 in./in. and machining tolerance of ±0.003 in. The contractor must review the NASA-provided geometry file for manufacturability and recommend optimization modifications; deliver 3D CAD files (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or equivalent STEP format) of any geometry changes; and complete tooling fabrication and delivery of 500 units within approximately four weeks. Performance occurs at NASA Ames Research Center. The NAICS code is 326199. Interested organizations must submit written capabilities and qualifications only; oral communications are not acceptable. NASA FAR Supplement Clause 1852.215-84 (Ombudsman) applies.
