About this opportunity
The U.S. Geological Survey announced a sole-source intent to award a purchase order to The University of Arizona for mineral separation, high-N zircon U-Pb geochronologic analysis, and Lu-Hf isotopic measurement services, with capability statements due by June 9, 2026 at 12:00 PM Eastern time. The University of Arizona represents the only known source offering high-throughput, high-N zircon analysis with simultaneous Lu-Hf isotopic measurement in split-stream mode using advanced instrumentation configurations (Neoma and Element2 or Neptune and iCAP systems), which enables paired U-Pb age and Lu-Hf isotopic data collection from the same zircon domains in a single analytical workflow to maintain data integrity and scientific validity. USGS will award under FAR Part 12 Commercial Products and Services. Although this notice does not constitute a competitive solicitation, all responsible parties may submit capability statements by the closing date for agency consideration; no formal solicitation will be issued, and a determination not to compete is at the Government's sole discretion. Responses must be submitted by email only to victor_nuno@ios.doi.gov and will not be accepted via hardcopy or SAM.gov portal.
Notice text
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) intends to award a purchase order to The University of Arizona for mineral separation, high-N zircon U-Pb geochronologic analysis, and Lu-Hf isotopic.
Award will be made in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation FAR Part 12 Acquisition of Commercial Products and Commercial Services. The University of Arizona is, to the USGS knowledge, the only source that offers high-throughput, high-N zircon analysis with simultaneous Lu-Hf isotopic measurement in split-stream mode using advanced instrumentation configurations (e.g., Neoma and Element2 or Neptune and iCAP systems). This capability allows for paired U-Pb age and Lu-Hf isotopic data to be collected from the same zircon domains in a single analytical workflow, which is essential for maintaining data integrity and scientific validity.
The purpose of this notice is to satisfy the requirements of FAR Subpart 5.203. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all responsible parties may submit a capability statement by the closing date of this announcement which shall be considered by the agency. No solicitation will be issued. A determination not to compete this action based upon responses received is in the sole discretion of the Government.
NAICS Code 541380 - Testing Laboratories and Services
