About this opportunity
NASA Langley Research Center seeks capabilities statements and technical input to support the design, fabrication, qualification, and delivery of a parachute decelerator system for the Dragonfly mission to Titan. The system must stabilize the aeroshell below Mach 1.8, provide differential ballistic coefficients to facilitate separation events, and deliver the lander to desired conditions. Interested sources should submit responses by November 15th addressing their technical capabilities, facilities, and cost and schedule estimates. NASA will determine the appropriate level of competition and set-aside based on responses received.
There is no set-aside designated for this opportunity. Technical challenges include operating parachutes as low as 70K and uncertainties regarding aeroshell dynamics and inflation times in Titan's unique atmosphere. NASA intends the system to support delivering a single lander to the surface of Titan, with parachute deployment required during atmospheric entry between 2022-2034.
