About this opportunity

The Department of Transportation (DOT), through the Office of the Secretary of Transportation (OST) and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential qualified sources, including small businesses, that may be interested in and capable of providing access to near real-time, nationwide data on rail cars and trains for the Rail Performance Data Program. The key objectives of the program are to obtain data on train movements, including car counts, speeds, hazardous materials placards, and other performance metrics, to support transportation policy, investment, and research across the federal government. Respondents are asked to provide information on their capabilities to meet the stated requirements, including data elements, accuracy levels, technology approaches, implementation timelines, and security/access controls for handling hazardous materials data. While no formal evaluations or contract award will result directly from this RFI, the government may later limit competition to GSA Schedule contract holders.

This opportunity is not set aside for any specific business size or socioeconomic category. The government has not provided any information about potential incumbents or current contractors. The RFI does not specify an award value or budget range, but the focus is on obtaining access to nationwide rail performance data to support various government transportation initiatives and research. The deadline for responses to this RFI is September 16, 2024.
