About this opportunity
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center has published a Special Notice for the Directed Energy Deposition of a Large Scale Aft End JBK-75 Thin-wall Demonstrator. This is a sole source requirement to fabricate a partial JBK-75 RS-25 aft end nozzle using the Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition (DED) process. NASA is seeking to demonstrate this manufacturing technology and has previously invested over $8,750,000 into the proprietary DED process of the sole-source vendor, RPMI Innovations.
The purpose of this requirement is to prepare a large-scale build plate, evaluate machine setup and build parameters, complete machine checkouts, and perform a minimum deposition of 20% of the thin-wall large scale RS-25 nozzle aft portion. NASA will provide the drawings, models, dimensions, and JBK-75 powder, while the vendor will be responsible for the engineering support, machine operation, consumables, and part removal. The work is to be completed within 55 consecutive days or approximately 1,000 hours of machine time. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities by 7 a.m. Central Standard Time on 11/18/2024 for the government to determine if it will be competed.
