About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center announced a sole-source contract intent on August 26, 2026, for design, fabrication, and delivery of a custom 0.5-meter diameter carbon fiber propeller for international SAA, with a response deadline of August 31, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. The procuring center intends to award to MEJZLIK PROPELLERS S.R.O. (Brno, Czechia) under FAR 12.102(a), having determined it is the sole provider of the required propeller. Performance occurs at NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio.
The Government will acquire commercial items using FAR Part 12 procedures (NAICS 336413). The deliverables include three identical three-bladed carbon fiber propellers with custom twist and chord distributions, each blade not exceeding 150 grams; one variable pitch hub (ground-adjustable, 3-bladed) compatible with a KDE8218XF-120 electric motor; two carbon fiber spinners (94 mm diameter); propeller blade 3D scans capturing as-manufactured geometry; and CAD models for all components. Propellers must safely operate at 4,250 RPM maximum with minimum safety factor of 1.5, with as-manufactured geometry matching as-designed geometry within 0.004 inches. The contractor must conduct overspin testing at 20 percent above maximum RPM for 30 minutes and centrifugal load tensile testing to failure on blade-hub assemblies. Completion is required within 5–6 months of award; the Government covers all shipping costs from the contractor facility.
Interested organizations may submit written capabilities and qualifications to determine whether to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. NASA FAR Supplement Clause 1852.215-84 (Ombudsman) applies.
