About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Research Laboratory has issued a Limited / Sole Source Justification Notice for an undefinitized task order under the Advanced Aerospace Systems Technology Research (AASTR) IDIQ contract (FA2391-23-D-0003) for the Demonstration of ACP Performance and Effectiveness (Demon APE) Phase II program. The task order, awarded to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI), focuses on continuing research and development of the XQ-67A aircraft, specifically involving integration of mission systems and upgrades to power generation and thermal management capabilities. GA-ASI was selected as the sole source contractor because they developed and own the existing XQ-67A aircraft, having completed the Flight Approval Process and previous engineering work under the Off Board Sensing Station (OBSS) program. The justification argues that using another contractor would result in substantial cost and schedule impacts, citing FAR 16.505(b)(2)(i)(B) as the basis for the exception. While specific award values were not explicitly detailed, the contract represents a continuation of ongoing research and development efforts in advanced aerospace systems.
Notice text
This is an undefinitized task order off the AASTR IDIQ (FA2391-23-D-0003) in accordance with the Justification for an Exception to Fair Opportunity document, dated 28 September 2024. The Government currently requires a mix of research and data, hardware, and software in support of continuing the research and development of the XQ-67A. That work consists of integrating specific mission systems and upgrading the vehicle to ensure adequate power generation and thermal management capacity.
Awarded contract FA2391-23-D-0003 to unknown vendor for unknown amount on 2025-01-17.
