About this opportunity
The Massachusetts Army National Guard, specifically the 104th Fighter Wing, is exploring potential sources for de-icing pellets to be used on airport runways, taxiways, and ramps. The pre-solicitation notice seeks a specialized airfield de-icer that is a solid, granular product with specific chemical composition requirements. The product must be biodegradable, non-chloride, low corrosion, and environmentally friendly, meeting FAA AC 150/5200-30 Specifications and SAE AMS 1431 standards. Responses to this sources sought notice are due by February 13, 2025, and are intended to help the government identify potential suppliers for a future small business set-aside contract. The notice emphasizes that this is a planning document and does not guarantee a contract award, and respondents will not be reimbursed for any administrative costs associated with their response.
The sources sought notice indicates a potential small business set-aside for the contract, which falls under the NAICS category 325998 for Miscellaneous Chemical Product and Preparation Manufacturing. The de-icing pellets must be delivered in sealed 1,000-pound mini sacks and have a specific chemical composition: 68-78% sodium formate, 20-30% sodium acetate, and corrosion inhibitors. While no specific award value or budget range is mentioned, the detailed technical specifications suggest a precise and specialized procurement process. The pellets must be 100% water soluble and meet stringent environmental and operational standards for use in military airfield environments. The procurement is being handled by the Department of the Army Massachusetts Army National Guard, a defense-oriented agency seeking a specific chemical solution for winter operations.
