About this opportunity

Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) in Portsmouth, Virginia, is conducting a sources-sought market research effort to identify contractors capable of installing engineered fire suppression systems for diesel generator rooms on three 60-ton portal cranes, with responses due by May 28, 2026 at 2:00 PM EST. This is market research only and does not constitute a solicitation or commitment to procure. The Government is particularly interested in identifying small business concerns with demonstrated experience in engineered fire suppression systems, clean agent or special hazards suppression systems, industrial or marine fire protection systems, shipyard facilities, and elevated access or crane-related work environments.

Work will be performed at NNSY Portsmouth, with performance locations approximately 75 feet above crane rails in machine houses accessed via fixed ladder cages. The contractor must design and install fixed fire extinguishing systems complying with NFPA 12 or NFPA 2001 standards, with automatically actuated alarm systems compliant with NFPA 72. Systems require 20- to 30-second warning alarms before agent discharge, ventilation fan and diesel engine shutdown prior to agent release, and multiple sensors to minimize erroneous activations. The contractor must design for 130-degree Fahrenheit ambient temperature, provide all specialized equipment for monthly and annual inspections including portable gas sampling meters, supply Personal Protective Equipment, comply with NNSY safety protocols and DBIDS registration, and provide one-year warranty on all parts and workmanship.

Period of performance is 12 months from award. Interested vendors should submit company name, SAM.gov registration and UEI/CAGE Code, business size and socioeconomic status under NAICS 238220, relevant NFPA experience, capability statement, and point of contact via email to janice.d.trader.civ@us.navy.mil.
