About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Corps of Engineers Engineering District Memphis is pursuing a civil engineering project for grade control weirs on Cypress Creek in Tennessee. The project involves constructing 12 low drop grade control weirs on the main stem of Cypress Creek between U.S. Highway 64 and State Highway 194, with an additional 8 weirs planned for tributaries. The weirs will have drops ranging from 2.0 to 6.0 feet, with varying spacing between structures. The project requires approximately 114,000 tons of riprap and bedding stone and will utilize around 100 acres of land for structures and construction access. While specific evaluation criteria are not detailed in the pre-solicitation notice, the project appears focused on channel stabilization and restoration, with careful consideration for environmental impact.
The contract opportunity is not designated with any specific set-aside, indicating it is open to all qualified contractors. The project falls under NAICS category 237990 for Other Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction, with a PSC category of Y1KB for Canal Construction. The pre-solicitation notice was posted on December 3, 2024, with responses due by December 17, 2024. Contractors will need to demonstrate capabilities in heavy civil engineering, with specific expertise in constructing grade control weirs and managing land restoration. The structures will occupy less than one acre each, and the project includes commitments to restore access roads and staging areas post-construction, as well as replanting areas where trees are removed during the project.
Notice text
The scope of this project includes 12 low drop grade control weirs on the main stem of Cypress Creek between U.S. Highway 64 and State Highway 194. The amount of drop through the structures ranges from 2.0 to 6.0 ft. The average spacing between the lower seven structures is 3,900 ft.; while between the upper five structures it is 2,000 ft. Eight additional grade control weirs would be built on tributaries. The weirs would require 114,000 tons of riprap and bedding stone. The project will require approximately 100 acres of land for the structures and construction access. The structures themselves will occupy less than 1 acre each. Some of the land needed for construction access is forested and trees will be removed and the areas replanted post construction. All access roads and staging areas will be restored post-construction. The existing channel section and grade will not be changed between the structures. The structures will be tied in to the existing channel to ensure stable side slopes and bed through the structure.
