About this opportunity

The Department of the Army Materiel Command Contracting Command Rock Island Arsenal is procuring two Zeiss Contura 9/12/6 Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to modernize inspection equipment at Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA). This is a sole-source procurement awarded exclusively to Zeiss / R.L. Guimont Co. Inc. under FAR 6.302-1, justified by the unique operational and technical requirements including proprietary CALYPSO software compatibility, air bearing operation with scanning error less than 0.00012 inches, 180-degree probe articulation, automatic probe changers, and graphically-based GD&T-capable control software. The government anticipates awarding a firm fixed price contract with a Time and Materials (T&M) CLIN. Award will be based on submission of a completed price matrix with prices stated to two decimal places, completion of FAR 52.204-24 telecommunications representations and certifications, and FAR 52.212-3 Alt 1 offeror representations and certifications. Proposals are due by 1:00 PM CST on November 3, 2025, and the offeror must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) at the time of submission.

This procurement carries no set-aside designation and is targeted specifically at the current incumbent, Zeiss / R.L. Guimont Co. Inc., which is the sole identified source capable of meeting requirements. The estimated total cost is $430,000.00 ($180,000 per machine), with anticipated contract award and delivery 180 days thereafter. The work is classified under NAICS code 333310 (Commercial and Service Industry Machinery Manufacturing) and PSC code 5210 (Measuring Tools, Craftsmen's). The place of performance is Crane, Indiana 47522. Changing manufacturers would result in significant additional costs, including approximately $32,000 in inspector retraining expenses, which supports the sole-source justification.
