The Walla Walla District Corps of Engineers (Corps) will be conducting a 5 year pilot program to supplement nutrients in Dworshak Reservoir via applications of liquid fertilizers. This program replaces an earlier pilot program which was not completed due to permitting requirements. The Corps obtained the necessary permit and plans to restart this project in 2012. This program is intended to enhance the productivity of the aquatic environment of both the reservoir and tributaries through nutrient enrichment. Dworshak Dam is located on the North Fork Clearwater River near Ahsahka, Idaho. Dworshak Dam backs up a large reservoir, over 650 feet deep, extending upstream approximately 55 miles. The goal of the pilot program is to balance the nutrient levels in Dworshak Reservoir through the addition of liquid fertilizers. The Contractor shall provide assistance to the Corps in managing the nutrient supplementation pilot program. Work activities contained in this contract include: updating fertilization prescription tables; assisting project personnel in developing current application plans and in making the first application for each season; maintaining or improving record keeping system; reviewing in-season water quality monitoring data; recommending in-season changes to application quantities and methods; preparing annual reports summarizing the supplementation efforts each year of the program; and providing recommendations for each year of the program. This contract is for a base contract year and for 2 optional years, each to be exercised at the Government's discretion.
