About this opportunity

The Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) for the Complete Streets Artificial Intelligence (AI) Initiative Phase 2, seeking to collect geographic and transportation-related data from entities with populations over 250,000. The initiative aims to support AI application development in transportation safety, mobility, and efficiency, aligning with the DOT's National Roadway Safety Strategy goal of zero highway deaths. Eligible participants will share infrastructure, traveler behavior, safety, and contextual data with SBIR Phase II awardees at no cost, with responses required by January 31, 2025. The RFI seeks comprehensive data including roadway features, signal information, sidewalk details, transit stop locations, vehicle volumes, speeds, crash statistics, land use information, demographics, and environmental factors. Respondents must provide specific details about their geographic region, data availability, format, Complete Streets policies, and implementation challenges.

The RFI does not include a specific set-aside designation and is open to a broad range of entities. Twelve SBIR Phase I contractors have been previously identified, including AIWaysion, Creare, JC Techs Corp, Kittleson & Associates, Kitware, Numobility, OpalAi, Skylite Group, State of Place Inc, Tranalytics, Velo.ai, and WCEC Engineering. Participation in Phase 1 is not a requirement for Phase 2 data contribution, allowing a wider range of potential participants. The RFI is strictly an information-gathering exercise and does not represent a formal solicitation for AI solutions or a contract award. Interested parties must submit their responses electronically to james.mikell@dot.gov, providing comprehensive information about their geographic region's transportation data and infrastructure characteristics.
