About this opportunity

NASA announced the Community Announcement for Earth Venture Orbital-1 (EVO-1), the first solicitation in the restructured Earth Venture Orbital series, with a community feedback deadline of April 23, 2026, and draft solicitation targeting third quarter 2026 followed by final solicitation in fourth quarter 2026.

The solicitation seeks innovative, Principal Investigator-led, cost-capped investigations for Low Earth Orbit operations with a PI-Managed Mission Cost-cap budget range of $35 million to $115 million in FY2026 dollars. Proposals may include space-based instruments for integration on NASA-provided platforms, complete observatories including CubeSats for NASA launch vehicles, or complete missions with PI-provided instruments, spacecraft, and launch vehicles. Participation is open to all categories of U.S. and non-U.S. organizations including educational institutions, industry, FFRDCs, and government agencies.

NASA targets a one-step selection process and formulation completion within six months of proposal selection, with investigations estimated to begin in fourth quarter 2027. The program emphasizes reducing time-to-science through accelerated launch timelines and leveraging commercial contracting approaches. NASA is committed to open science principles under SPD-41A, requiring full, free, and open sharing of data, algorithms, software, and documentation.

As of August 1, 2026, NASA reactivated this notice to alert the community that an amendment to the Q&As for the EVO-1 AO has been posted on the program's home page. Inquiries should be addressed to Michael Kaszyca (michael.kaszyca@nasa.gov) or Nadya Vinogradova Shiffer (nadya@nasa.gov).
