About this opportunity
The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime is conducting market research to identify potential sources for a Carrier Gear Assembly, also known as an Axle Differential Assembly, which is a mechanical component designed to transfer engine power to wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds. This Sources Sought Notice (SPRDL1-26-R-0042) is being published in compliance with FAR Part 10 to canvas the industry for alternative suppliers beyond the current manufacturer, Meritor Industrial Products, LLC. The specific component is identified by NSN 3010-01-570-7426 and is utilized in the Palletized Loading System (PLS) M1074A1 and M1075A1 vehicles. Interested contractors must meet the requirements of the Source Approval Program, including vehicle-level qualification testing at their own expense, and should be aware that the Government does not possess rights to the Technical Data Package or specifications. Responses to this market research notice are voluntary and due by February 12, 2026, with the Government assuming no financial responsibility for costs incurred in responding.
This pre-solicitation notice includes no set-aside designations and does not constitute a formal request for proposals. The procurement requires seven units with an additional seven units as an option quantity. No specific award value or budget range is disclosed in this market research phase. The current manufacturer of record is Meritor Industrial Products, LLC, identified by CAGE Code 3D6E9 and part number 320001045A01168. Potential suppliers should note that participation in this sources sought phase is a preliminary step toward qualification, and formal solicitation may follow based on the responses received and the Government's market research findings. This opportunity is categorized under NAICS 336350 (Motor Vehicle Transmission and Power Train Parts Manufacturing) and PSC 3010 (Torque Converters and Speed Changers).

Sources Sought Notice: SPRDL1-26-R-0042
Item Name: Carrier, Gear Assembly
NSN: 3010-01-570-7426
Manufacturer's Part Number: Meritor Industrial Products, LLC (CAGE: 3D6E9) P/N 320001045A01168
Quantity: 7
Option Quantity: 7
End Item: Palletized Loading System (PLS) M1074A1 and M1075A1
Response Date: 12 Feburary 2026
Requirements Description: A Carrier, Gear Assembly, or commonly known as Axle Differential Assembly, is a mechanical component designed to transfer engine power to a pair of wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds. When a vehicle turns, the outside wheel must travel a greater distance and therefore rotate faster than the inside wheel. The differential assembly permits the necessary speed differences and prevents excessive tire wear and drivetrain strain. The differential receives rotational input from a longitudinal driveshaft and outputs a transverse rotation to both right and left axles. This specific differential is part of the number four axle assembly, so it also has a longitudinal output that transmits rotation via a driveshaft to the number five axle. Another feature of a differential is it dictates the axle’s gear ratio.
The Government does not have rights to the Technical Data Package (TDP) or specifications.
This sources sought notice is published in compliance with FAR Part 10, Market Research. The purpose of this sources sought notice is to canvas the industry for any possible other sources. This request for capability information does not constitute a request for proposals. Submission of any information in response to this market research is purely voluntary. The Government assumes no financial responsibilty for any costs incurred in responding or in any subsequent exchange of information.
Contractors interested in becoming a source of supply need to meet the requirements of the Source Approval Program including vehicle level qualification testing, at their own expense. The TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, Competition Management Office (CMO), is the lead proponent for the Source Approval Program. Specific information and point of contact for the Source Approval Program is available at https://tacom.army.mil/ombudsman.sap.
