About this opportunity

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC, operating under the Department of Energy, is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) for a specialized electric can cutter to be used inside a glovebox at the Savannah River Site. The procurement seeks a device capable of cutting and burnishing three nested stainless steel canisters compliant with DOE standard 3013, with specific technical requirements including precise dimensional capabilities and operational constraints. Suppliers responding to the RFI must provide evidence of past performance, personnel qualifications, quality assurance documentation, manufacturing specifications, and standard lead times for delivery. Evaluation criteria will focus on suppliers' ability to meet detailed technical requirements, including equipment specifications, operational environment compatibility, and compliance with relevant standards. The response deadline is March 17, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. EST, with responses to be submitted electronically to Barbara McCarty.

The pre-solicitation notice indicates no specific set-aside designation and does not mention an incumbent contractor or precise award value. The can cutter must meet stringent technical specifications, including fitting through a 12" bag-out port, weighing no more than 238 lbs, and operating within temperature ranges of 68-74°F and humidity levels of 30-60%. The device must handle canister diameters between 3.937" and 4.921" and lengths up to 10.5", with capabilities for cutting and burnishing three nested cans of varying thicknesses. The procurement is categorized under NAICS code 333517 (Machine Tool Manufacturing) and PSC code 3695 (Miscellaneous Special Industry Machinery), suggesting a highly specialized manufacturing requirement. The solicitation is structured as a market research initiative to identify potential offerors, with no guarantee of subsequent contract award.
