About this opportunity
The Department of the Navy Strategic Systems Programs is procuring disposal services for TRIDENT II (D5) first, second, and third stage rocket motors, along with upgrades to government-owned supporting equipment. The scope of work encompasses documentation of disposal plans and environmental assessments, temporary storage of motors and associated components from Fleet Ballistic Missile storage sites, preparation of motors for shipment to Hill Air Force Base, and on-site support during actual motor disposal and testing operations. Additionally, the contractor will conduct aging studies utilizing both destructive and nondestructive evaluations and develop specialized tooling and procedures for propellant sample removal from fleet-returned D5 motors. The Government intends to award this contract based on a non-competitive sole-source procurement under FAR 6.302 authority, as the selected contractor possesses unique facilities, equipment, and expertise specific to TRIDENT II handling and disposal. Interested parties may submit responses indicating their capability to perform the work within fifteen days from the publication date of January 9, 2026, with the Government retaining sole discretion to determine whether to pursue competitive proposals.
This procurement carries no set-aside designations and is intended as a sole-source negotiation with Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation (NGSC), located in Magna, Utah, identified as the only known source with the requisite capabilities. The contract performance period spans Fiscal Years 2026 through 2030, providing a multi-year engagement for the disposal and support activities. No specific contract award value or budget range is disclosed in this pre-solicitation notice. The solicitation represents a significant undertaking involving complex technical operations related to strategic weapons system components, requiring specialized knowledge and infrastructure that is currently limited to a single qualified contractor. The formal solicitation is expected to follow this pre-solicitation notice, with the fifteen-day response window closing on January 26, 2026.
