About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center is conducting a pre-solicitation notice for the design and build of an injection-molded inner sun visor for the Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU) spacesuit, with a capability statement submission deadline of August 25, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. NASA intends to issue a sole-source contract to Three-Dimensional Services, Inc. under FAR 12.102(a) authority; interested organizations may submit written capability statements to demonstrate basis for competitive procurement consideration.
The contractor must assess injection-molding feasibility, design and build the mold, and deliver 10 prototype inner sun visors within 6 months from Authority to Proceed. The visor is a 60-degree wedge measuring 12.14 inches wide with 7.586-inch radius, meeting stringent optical and durability specifications: optical imperfections limited to 0.015"–0.035" diameter, haze not exceeding 2%, minimum 82% visible light transmission, refractive error not exceeding 0.125 D, and impact resistance to 125-pound contact loads and 2-inch steel ball impacts at 1.4 ft/s. All chamfers, fillets, and rounds must be molded; post-machining is minimized to deburring only. Performance location is NASA Johnson Space Center. Evaluation criteria are Technical Capability, Past Performance, and Price on a Firm Fixed Price basis. Submissions must be capability statements in PDF only; quotes and oral communications will not be reviewed. Contact Cara Craft (cara.s.craft@nasa.gov) or Bobbie Young (Bobbie.j.young@nasa.gov).
