NASA and the Department of Energy are preparing a demonstration of system-level technology for a small space nuclear reactor. The ground demonstration at the DOE Nevada Nuclear Security Site will require a neutron reflector made of Beryllium Oxide (BeO). NASA has designed the reflector and provided drawings for the BeO pieces that will be stacked by the demonstration team to make the reflector. The proposer's responsibility is to fabricate and machine the BeO parts to the NASA specifications.
NASA GRC received multiple proposals that were technically acceptable. In the RFP, GRC specified that selection would be made based on the cumulative price to purchase all of the components in a single transaction. The cumulative proposal price for Materion is $934,123.35.
Because this is a lowest price technically acceptable commercial contract, GRC will award to Materion for having the lowest cumulative total as per the solicitation NNC16569423Q.
