About this opportunity
The United States Patent and Trademark Office is seeking automated solutions, particularly artificial intelligence capabilities, to enhance patent and trademark examination processes and reduce application backlogs. The procurement focuses on AI-based tools that can assist patent examiners and trademark examining attorneys in conducting comprehensive prior art searches, analyzing patent applications, and generating detailed search reports while maintaining work product consistency. The USPTO seeks American industry partners willing to provide low or no-cost solutions that can integrate with existing systems including cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), utilize enterprise development tools like GitLab, and comply with federal security requirements and Section 508 accessibility standards. Vendors must be US-based companies registered in SAM.gov and demonstrate capability to handle thousands of patent documents daily while operating within the USPTO's secure cloud boundary. The original RFI response deadline was extended multiple times, ultimately closing on July 11, 2025, with questions and answers posted by July 7, 2025.
This procurement does not utilize any set-aside designations and is open to all qualified vendors meeting the specified requirements. No incumbent contractors or current service providers are mentioned in the documentation, suggesting this may represent a new or significantly expanded capability for the USPTO. While specific award values or budget ranges are not disclosed, the emphasis on low or no-cost solutions indicates the agency is seeking arrangements that may provide non-monetary benefits to vendors, such as marketing opportunities and the ability to showcase technological capabilities on a prestigious government platform. The USPTO has indicated it will conduct market research sessions with selected vendors and may limit any future solicitation to a small number of qualified companies based on RFI responses. The agency completed its review of RFI submissions and is now engaging directly with certain companies that demonstrated potential value and innovative AI capabilities aligned with the USPTO's transformation objectives.
