About this opportunity
The United States Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA), acting on behalf of the United States Air Force 59th Medical Wing, Science and Technology Office, has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to award a sole source contract to Wake Forest University Health Sciences (WFUHS). The notice pertains to a specific research and development project focused on assessing African Green Monkeys as a large animal model for studying Hantavirus infections. The contract will be awarded under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 541715 for Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences, with a size standard of 1,000 employees. The government has determined that WFUHS is the only source capable of performing this unique research requirement based on their unsolicited research proposal. The Special Notice fulfills synopsis requirements under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 5.102(a)(3) and 5.203(a).
The primary objective of this research study is to establish the African Green Monkey as a viable animal model for understanding orthohantavirus infection, including disease pathogenesis and potential therapeutic assessments. Potential contractors have until 12:00 PM EST on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, to submit written responses to Tara Borntreger at tara.j.borntreger.civ@health.mil, demonstrating their capability to provide the required services. Any interested sources must provide clear and convincing evidence of their ability to meet the project requirements, with the understanding that submitting a request for documentation will not be considered an affirmative response. If no written responses are received within 15 days of the notice's publication, the contract will be awarded to WFUHS without further consideration. The government emphasizes that this notice does not represent a commitment to cover costs incurred in preparing or submitting data, and the contract will be negotiated under FAR 6.302-1(a)(2)(i)(A) based on the unique and innovative nature of the proposed research.
