About this opportunity
The U.S. Geological Survey intends to award a sole-source purchase order to GeoSep Services for apatite fission-track (AFT) and U-Pb analyses, with responses due by August 3, 2026 at 0800 PST. USGS states that GeoSep is the only known source capable of meeting the required technical specifications, specifically 252Cf irradiation methodology. This notice satisfies FAR Subpart 5.101(a) requirements for sole-source procurement; no competitive solicitation will be issued, though all responsible parties may submit quotations for agency consideration.
The work involves laboratory analysis of 16 geological samples (14 bedrock and 2 unconsolidated sediment samples) collected from the Kuskokwim Mountains region of Alaska to support critical mineral resource and ore deposit formation studies. The contractor must demonstrate expertise in AFT and U-Pb thermochronometry using conventional track counting, 252Cf irradiation, and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). Deliverables include Excel spreadsheets containing raw fission-track counts, kinetic parameters, isotope measurements, track lengths, calibration factors, and calculated AFT and U-Pb dates. The period of performance runs through December 31, 2027. Responses must be submitted electronically to yangzhi_deng@ios.doi.gov only; hardcopy and web portal submissions will not be accepted. NAICS 541380 (Testing Laboratories).
