About this opportunity
This Special Notice is a sole source synopsis published by the Department of the Air Force Space Command for the procurement of aircrew helmets. The 45th Contracting Squadron is seeking to acquire specialized Gentex Ballistic Helmets specifically for the 920th OSS/OSL and the 301st Aircrew to support Space Force Delta 45 launch missions. The procurement includes 30 XL and 5 XXL HGU-100A/P Flyer's OPS-CORE Helmets in Tan 499 color, along with various accessories including vented lux liner replacement kits, powerpath arc rail kits, and suspension/retention components. All helmets are FAST Carbon Aircrew models with High Cut, 3 Hole configuration, Vented Lux Liner Padding, and Head Loc 4-Point Chinstrap. The notice was posted on August 26, 2025, and falls under NAICS code 336413 for Other Aircraft Parts and Auxiliary Equipment Manufacturing.
The primary objective of this sole source procurement is to provide essential aircrew safety equipment for multiple aircraft types including C-130H/J, C-5M, U-28A, and other platforms that have received airworthiness determination approval. Gentex Corporation has been identified as the only source capable of fulfilling the government's unique requirements, with the justification supported by HAF-2024-005A HQ USAF/A3TH Policy Message dated March 29, 2024. The procurement is authorized due to DLA not currently having the equipment in inventory, allowing units to procure directly from the manufacturer until a DLA contract is established. While this is designated as a sole source acquisition, the government will consider responses from other capable sources within 7 days of publication, with a response deadline of September 2, 2025. Phone calls will not be accepted as a valid response mechanism, and contractors must demonstrate capability to meet the government's specialized aircrew helmet requirements.
