About this opportunity

The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime is preparing to procure an electric heat gun (NSN 4940-014752026) under a long-term contract with a response deadline of September 4, 2026, and intends to solicit only from the approved source, Malcom Company, Inc., under sole-source authority citing unavailable technical data.

DLA Weapons Support is conducting market research through a sources-sought notice to determine acquisition parameters and whether the heat gun qualifies as a commercial item under FAR Part 12. The Government does not currently possess complete, unrestricted technical data for this NSN, making competitive acquisition impracticable under 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). The NAICS code is 335999 (All Other Miscellaneous Electrical Equipment and Component Manufacturing) with an expected business size of 600 employees.

The anticipated contract structure is an Indefinite Delivery Contract with a three-year base period and up to four optional one-year extensions. Quantities will be ordered on an as-needed basis through delivery orders against negotiated terms and pricing.

Interested sources must complete and return the attached Market Survey questionnaire within seven business days. The survey requests information on manufacturer versus dealer/distributor status, commercial item sales history, published pricing and catalogs, maximum and minimum order quantities, delivery lead times, and quantity/price breaks. Suppliers are encouraged to provide unredacted commercial invoices and drawings, which will be marked proprietary and confidential and used only for price reasonableness evaluation and source selection.

The contract specialist is Mandy Phipps-Kuhlman at mandy.phipps-kuhlman@dla.mil. No set-aside applies to this procurement.
