About this opportunity
The U.S. Geological Survey intends to award a purchase order to RieglUSA in Winter Garden, Florida for a 3D laser scanner by winter 2026; this is a sole-source procurement with no set-aside. The scanner must meet exacting technical specifications including a 900-meter range at 20% reflectivity at 300 kHz, collection of five or more returns per laser pulse, a 360-degree horizontal field of view, vertical field of view greater than 100 degrees, and measurement accuracy of 5 millimeters or better with precision of 3 millimeters or better. The instrument requires onboard touchscreen and mobile device remote control capability, simultaneous image collection in static and mobile modes, integration with external high-accuracy GNSS RTK systems with included RTK GNSS antenna, onboard orientation sensors including electronic compass for real-time scan registration, and support for mobile scanning via external GNSS in RTK or PPK mode. The scanner must weigh less than 10 kilograms including batteries to support remote field scanning of geological research sites, provide more than 8 hours of battery operation with multi-battery charging capability, and include online waveform processing for vegetation and similar conditions at 150 meters. Angle measurement resolution must not exceed 0.0007 degrees (2.5 arcseconds). Responses are due by September 21, 2026.
