About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Integrated Service Network 7, specifically the VA Columbia Healthcare System on behalf of the Atlanta, Georgia Veterans Healthcare System, has issued a Special Notice of Intent to award a sole-source contract for the procurement of laser scanning equipment and related services. The notice, posted on February 2, 2026, with solicitation number 36C24726Q0263, identifies Martin AIJS, LLC, a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), as the intended contractor for this acquisition. The procurement falls under NAICS code 332812 (Metal Coating, Engraving, and Allied Services) and PSC 3426 (Metal Finishing Equipment). The contracting officer is Joseph Locke, located at the W.J.B. Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina. This sole-source procurement represents the government's determination that only one vendor can meet the specified requirements.
The objective of this procurement is to acquire two NuTrace Laser NUX20 NG units, two laser startup training sessions, and two NuTrace R+ scanners, with a trade-in credit applied for the return of the original Laser NUX20 equipment. The government justifies the sole-source approach based on market research demonstrating that the NuTrace NUX20ng Fiber Laser is uniquely designed and the only product specifically engineered for Sterile Processing Departments, capable of marking complex surgical instruments such as robotic Da Vinci instruments without opening doors while providing UDI-compliant marking. Interested contractors may submit capability statements, proposals, or quotations by February 4, 2026 at 10:00 AM EST to joseph.locke@va.gov, and all prospective contractors must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) to be eligible for award consideration. The government reserves the right to determine whether to issue a formal solicitation based on responses received. This procurement utilizes FAR 13.5 Simplified Procedures for Certain Commercial Items under 41 U.S. Code Section 1901.
