About this opportunity
United States Air Forces in Europe–Air Forces Africa is conducting market research to identify sources capable of providing DZ/LZ Lights equivalent to the Lodestar V2, with responses due by August 28, 2026; this is a sources-sought notice only and will not result in contract award.
The anticipated contract action will be structured as Firm Fixed Price. No set-aside applies.
The required system must deliver portable, remote-controlled LED illumination for marking airfields, drop zones, and helicopter landing zones in compliance with DAFMAN 13-217. Essential specifications include operation on four AA batteries (lithium-compatible); three distinct LED arrays (horizontal, vertical, and forward-facing) with a minimum of two infrared LEDs in the forward array and one IR LED in other arrays; five selectable color outputs (Infrared, Red, White, Blue, and Green) with physical button cycling; minimum 15-candela output for overt visible light in steady and flashing modes; user control via handheld ATAK devices to toggle specific arrays; and secure anchoring via baseplate, tie-down assembly, and at least two ground stakes. Unit housing must be constructed from high-impact, proprietary glass-reinforced polymer capable of withstanding mechanical stress and rollover effects from heavy wheeled machinery and military airlift (C-130 and C-17). The system supports standard AMP patterns, Military Free-Fall operations, taxiway markers, and covert night vision goggle operations.
Interested parties should submit a capabilities statement and past performance indicators to A1C Vincent Vasquez (vincent.vasquez.3@us.af.mil) and SrA Veronica Batista-Velez (veronica.batista_velez@us.af.mil).
