About this opportunity

The Defense Logistics Agency Aviation is conducting market research to identify potential sources for the 20MM F-15E Ammunition Structure Assembly Container, a specialized storage system for 20MM caliber ammunition used in F-15E fighter aircraft. The container features a single bay design with an endless loop carrier belt assembly that moves live and expended ammunition rounds through parallel tracks, maintaining complete round control during transport. The government is seeking to determine if any vendors besides the original equipment manufacturer, General Dynamics - OTS, Inc., can meet the unique military requirements for this equipment. Interested parties must submit their capabilities and interest by February 15, 2025, by emailing Janet Harvey and Victor Henderson. The agency intends to award a sole source contract using Other Than Full and Open Competition procedures as prescribed by FAR 6.302-1, indicating that General Dynamics is currently the only known source with adequate technical knowledge and capabilities.

The procurement does not have a specific set-aside designation and is classified under NAICS category 332993 for Ammunition Manufacturing. The contract will be awarded directly to General Dynamics - OTS, Inc., which currently holds the unique technical data and configuration rights for the Ammunition Structure Assembly Container with NSN 1005-01-298-2522. While no specific contract value or quantity was disclosed in the pre-solicitation notice, the procurement is specifically supporting F-15E fighter aircraft ammunition handling infrastructure. The government emphasized that this announcement is for informational purposes only and does not constitute a formal solicitation, and no funds are available to compensate respondents for preparing their responses. The procurement timeline indicates a posting date of February 12, 2025, with a response deadline of February 27, 2025.

Complete round control is maintained by the cradling action of these ammunition carriers during straight line runs. Turn around sprockets are used to control the carrier at turn around points. Turn around cartridge guides provide guidance to each round as the round travels through the ammunition carriers, which open during turn around. The three sprockets beneath the second loop are the loading access unit which provides an interface for loading and downloading the system. These requirements are military unique and are not available in the commercial market sector.
