About this file

This document is a detailed engineering design plan for the Wilbur Cross High School Tennis and Pickleball Courts project, prepared by the City of New Haven Department of Engineering under the leadership of Mayor Justin M. Elicker and City Engineer Giovanni Zinn. The project involves comprehensive renovation of existing tennis and pickleball courts, including removing existing posts and footings, installing new concrete footings with PVC sleeves, and implementing a multi-layer court surface system. The design includes specific technical specifications for court pavement, net posts, center strap anchors, and fence installation, with a focus on using high-quality materials like CSS Plexipave system, bituminous concrete, geotextile membrane, and PVC-coated steel fencing.

The basis of design outlines a seven-step surface restoration process, including court patch binder for existing surface cracks, geotextile membrane installation, bituminous concrete layers, acrylic resurfacer, stain blocker, and line painting. Technical details specify precise measurements for court dimensions, post placements, and fence configurations, with specifications for concrete strength (3000 psi), steel framework with black PVC finish, and aluminum hardware with powder-coat finishes. The project emphasizes durability, performance, and aesthetic consistency, utilizing materials that meet specific ASTM standards and providing detailed installation guidelines for each court component.
