Statement of Work United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Western Human Nutrition Research Center (WHNRC) Davis, CA
1. Objective
The mission of the Western Human Nutrition Research Center (WHNRC) is to conduct nutrition research studies aimed at improving the health of all Americans. To achieve this goal, WHNRC conducts studies with human volunteers and performs basic research. The AMSCO Lab 250 small scientific laboratory steam sterilizer (serial number 030131701) is used to sterilize instruments, glassware, liquids, and other laboratory materials used in human studies research.
WHNRC is seeking a contractor who can offer an on-site service agreement that will cover all parts, labor and time and is authorized to maintain Steris equipment. Quarterly preventative maintenance (PM) visits shall be included that covers cleaning the internal and external parts of the instrument and performing system checks and tests.
2. Scope
The purpose of this sterilization equipment, or also known as an autoclave, is to destroy all microorganisms on the surfaces of laboratory materials, such as surgical instruments for animal studies, glassware, and in liquids, such as media and water used in experiments. Because microorganisms are undetectable to the naked eye, it is pertinent that the autoclave is performing at the right temperature, pressure, and for the right duration of time for microorganism destruction. An autoclave sterilizing at a low temperature and pressure would lead to failed experiments. Only a professional service can determine the proper function of an autoclave and identify problems before catastrophic failures ensue.
The autoclave is utilized by WHNRC scientists, laboratory technicians, and staff on a weekly basis and is heavily used. In order to ensure research integrity, the autoclave must be kept in good condition.
The need for this service agreement will be ongoing for at least the next four years.
