About this file

This is a Welding Services Quote Request from the Operational Services Division (OSD) Commonwealth Print and Mail Services (CPMS) in Chelsea, Massachusetts. The agency is seeking a vendor to provide welding services to custom build safety barriers on existing printing and mail sorting equipment to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) machine guarding standards. Prospective bidders are required to conduct a site visit before submitting quotes, with tentative walk-throughs scheduled for Tuesday, December 17, 2024, between 8 AM - 2 PM. Interested vendors must email donna.ellis5@mass.gov by Monday, December 16, at 12:00 PM to request a specific site visit time and provide attendee names. Prevailing wage will apply to the project.

The safety modifications are specific to two equipment areas: a commercial mail sorter and LDU and camera stations. The corrective actions involve installing machine guarding to prevent employee exposure to hazardous moving parts, including ingoing nip points and rotating components. The proposed guards must prevent employees from accessing dangerous machine areas, stop mechanical motion when doors are open, and be designed in a manner that cannot be defeated or bypassed. The project aims to ensure compliance with 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1) safety standards and protect workers from potential injury during equipment operation.
