The University of Virginia seeks to develop a new data center at Fontaine Research Park in Charlottesville, Virginia to support academic research high-performance computing and UVA Health Information Technology operations. The proposed three-story building will encompass approximately 50,000 square feet and will be located adjacent to the new zero combustion Fontaine Central Energy Plant as part of the 2018 Fontaine Master Plan. The facility will have day-one capacity of 4MW for Research Computing and 500mW for HIT, with plans to scale up to 17MW in the future. Construction is expected to take approximately 21 months, with the project targeting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification.
