About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for a Water Main Replacement project at Building 500, providing clarification on contract requirements and project specifications for bidders.
The project involves replacing 100 feet of existing 12-inch water main pipe located at depths ranging from 4 to 7.5 feet. The replacement pipe shall be C900 type, and contractors must backfill with sand and gravel compacted to 95 percent. An asphalt overlay of 3 inches is required. Pressure testing must be conducted using a hydrostatic standing pressure test at 90 PSI or 150 percent of working pressure, with contractors responsible for installing their own test valves. The project duration is 150 days maximum from Notice to Proceed. Maxwell AFB's 42 CES/CEO will handle utility locating and marking, hot work permits, and excavation permits, with markings provided to the contractor after NTP is issued. The contractor shall provide project supervision, while 42 CES/CEO serves as the Technical Monitor. Bonding requirements—including Bid Guarantee, Performance Bond, and Payment Bond—must be submitted with the proposal. The contractor is responsible for scheduling work, which may occur on weekends or weekdays at their discretion. If the contractor damages the water valve during work, repair or replacement is the contractor's responsibility. Civil drawings and service information are not available. No services or tees are included in the repair scope. The work scope is limited to items outlined in the Statement of Work, and no bidders list is available.
