About this file

This technical requirements document outlines specifications for building board fiberboard required by the U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center. The Test Center requires a total of 6,336 sheets of 1/2 inch thick, low density cellulose fiberboard primed white on one side to support munition fragmentation testing over the period of November 2023 through November 2024. Individual sheets must measure 4 feet by 8 feet and be packaged in packs of 96 sheets. Twenty-two packs per truck are required for a total of three flatbed truck deliveries. The material density of 16 pounds per cubic foot will avoid secondary fragment breakup during impact testing. The white primed surface aids in identifying fragment perforations for removal and analysis. Packaging and delivery requirements support outdoor storage and handling of the absorbent material by Test Center fixtures. Delivery within 30 days of contract award is specified to the Aberdeen Proving Ground location. No warranty or security requirements beyond normal base visitor control procedures are outlined.

Technical Requirements/Specification Sheet Aberdeen Test Center

Building Board Purchase

Description of Purchase:

Requested building board is integral part of munition fragmentation characteristic tests to capture all case fragments from an exploding warhead and allow physical recovery of each fragment for further analysis. This purchase is to support 5 shots for arena fragmentation testing at ATC. It will be placed in a semicircle around the munition and placed on fixtures that allow the units to be stacked up to 16 feet in height.

Description of hardware:

Technical Requirements:

The material density from this vendor 256 kg/m3 (16 lb/ft3) ensures that secondary fragment breakup from fragment impact into a more dense material is avoided. Painted white on one side aides the identification of fragment perforations from which the physical fragment must be removed.

The vendor packaging in 96 sheet units with plastic helps this absorbent material to be more weather resistant for during storage (largely outdoors) and actual testing, and from small fragments falling out after being move during post shot procedures. Our fixtures for position this material are made for the 96 sheet packs and any modifications would require costly reconstruction of fixtures. Delivery on flatbed trucks allow unloading of the material with the available equipment so the units are not damaged.
