NONDESTRUCTIVE TEST EQUIPMENT CALIBRATION & MAINTENANCE SERVICES

1.) The PWS states all work is to be performed at Aberdeen. Much of this equipment is required to be calibrated in a controlled calibration lab. Normally, our customers send portable equipment to Newco for calibration in a controlled environment. What is the government intent? I understand we can and will do the mag benches on site, but most of the other equipment will have to be sent to us. Is your intent to send equipment to us and if so, will government pay for shipping?

Answer: Currently, all of our NDT equipment is calibrated on-site at ATC except for pressure gauges that are calibrated at the contractor location. Since calibration is essential to our NAS-410 certification we cannot be without our equipment for extended periods of time so shipping it to a contractor site would not be advantageous to us. All calibrations should conducted at APG/ATC.

Follow-up Question: So this is highly unusual. There is no way to calibrate light meters in the field because you need a certified dark room to do that. Also, the comment about sending off equipment for calibration affecting NAS 410 certification doesn't make any sense to me. We have similar equipment from Anniston Army, Letterkenny, Cherry Point and many other military locations sent to us for calibration. We do a quick turn and there has never been an issue.

Follow-up Answer: Comparative calibrations conducted at the government facility will meet our standard.

2.) Does the contractor need to be ISO 17025 certified to bid on this contract?

Answer: Yes.

3.) Does the government have certified calibration facilities to perform on site calibrations?

Answer: No.
