About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a Courier Services contract for Fort Eustis, VA, with the Department of the Army Medical Command. The Q&A provides critical operational details about the courier service requirements, including shipping specifications and handling protocols. Key details include a minimum of 35 shipments per week across 7 stops at 4 facilities, with a 5-day work week. Shipments typically consist of 3 boxes and 2 bags, with a weight limit of 25 lbs per package.

The document specifies three temperature transportation requirements for specimens: frozen (with dry ice), refrigerated (with wet or frozen ice packs), and ambient temperature. Each shipment must use a biohazard-safe container appropriate to the temperature needs. The contract explicitly requires the awarded contractor to possess Hazmat certifications, not a subcontractor. The shipments are classified under UN1845 Hazmat number with a 9 at the bottom of the diamond-shaped label, indicating dry ice classification. The government emphasizes the need for proper temperature control and safe handling of potentially sensitive biological specimens during transport.
