Harney Gym Renovation, Bldg. #664, FORT LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS

Questions, Answers & Modifications

Q1. Question: While the trench for the plumbing clean out is pulled, will there be a separate entrance that can be used to get to the pool?

A1. Answer: The temporary entrance through the NE gymnasium during the entire project (as outlined in SW-2.g and SW-3.a of the SOW) will be the only entrance for the facility users. The users will need to be able to safely traverse the work area, throughout the project period, to get to the pool.

There will be allowed a one-day pre-scheduled shut-down of pool for the work.

Q2. Question: Will electronic submission of Bid Packages with hard copies to follow be allowed?

A2. Answer: In the Solicitation under INSTRUCTIONS TO BIDDERS, L.2. BID SUBMISSION, part f states “Electronic bids via e-mail or fax will not be accepted. Bids shall be mailed through a commercial/Government carrier or hand carried.”

Q3. Question: Can you tell me what the wall type is, in the men’s locker room ADA toilet areas? Is it a CMU Block wall?

A3. Answer: Those are Type “B2” walls with metal stud framing, not CMU.

Q4. Question: In the prints, there are pages that cover a new telecom that will be needed. The project outline makes it sound like a telecom will not be included in the project, which is it?

A4. Answer: Yes, Telecom is to be included.

Q5. Question: Please confirm floor drain count. Item D-06 sht. A2. There were inconsistencies between the drawings and the actuals at the site walk.

A5. Answer: The drawings show the work to be done, but the number should be field verified. I don’t believe any specific count was given.

Sheets A2, A4, P3 and P4 have been updated to show three additional floor drains we found in the Women’s 115 B entry.

Q6. Question: Please confirm that C-15 sht. A4 "Provide and install new cedar seat benches." only applies to the area outside of the Women's Sauna as stated at the site visit. Drawings note C-15 in the locker areas of both the Men's and Women's.

A6. Answer: There are also new cedar benches inside the new Men’s sauna as well as the one outside the sauna. There are new cedar benches just outside the existing Women’s sauna. There are existing cedar benches inside the Women’s sauna that are to be sanded and oiled. For clarification, in addition to the cedar benches, there are also to be new non-cedar benches in the locker areas of both Mens and Womens Rooms.

Q7. Question: Who is the current fire alarm provider?

A7. Answer: Our fire department states that there is currently only battery-powered “residential style” smoke detectors in the building.

Q8. Question: Concerning the cove base in locker rooms, the actual lockers are called out to receive 6” Tile base (on plan A-8) and the walls are called for 5’0” of tile on walls (on plan A-9), typically we would roll up our Cremona TG cove base below any wall tile but with the lockers receiving tile base it’s unclear and I was unable to locate an elevation for Locker rooms. This would only affect the South locker room walls (assuming Tile on lockers to North, West, and East) please advise.

A8. Answer: All floor base in the locker rooms is to be epoxy quartz. The note on Sheet A8 in the locker areas has been updated to reflect the “6” integral epoxy quartz cove base” (the “tile” note was a leftover from an earlier design scheme). The wall tile is to be on the walls, including the built-out changing benches up 5’-0”, but not the wall base in any location, including below locker areas.

Q9. Question: Sht A14 specs "World Airstyle" Model B series Commercial 80 sec. drying cycle in brushed stainless steel. This item has been discontinued and is no longer available. I have been unable to find a wall push button hair dryer.

However, according to the World Dryer rep I spoke with, the "World SMARTdri" series may be able to work in this application as it sits off the wall by 7.6". Please advise on how to proceed with this item.

A9. Answer: Sheet A14, Division 11, 11400 – Appliances part c. has been changed to ”American Dryer A90-BG Steel Black Graphite Advantage AD Hand & Hair Dryer”

Coordinate with counter support and faucets.” Also, the paper towel dispensers’ notes were clarified with added wording: “by Owner.”].

Q11. Question: What are the specifications of the 1/8" "frosted" clear polycarbonate on page A-12 Section B-1?

Q12. Question: Who does the building inspections out there? Is it still a city inspection?

A12. Answer: The Fort Leavenworth Department of Public Works COR and Project Manager will be reviewing the work. A representative of the MICC and the User Management may also review the on-going work..

Q13. Question: You can see circuits going to panels LPN1 and LP6 on sheets E5& E6 but can’t see where the panels are located. Where are these panels located?

A13. Answer: Sheet E1, 2 Electrical Panel Location Plan - Floor 1: “LP-6” has been noted. Electrical Panel Location Plan – Floor 2 has been added, along with designated locations of “LPN-1” and “LPN-2”.

Q14. Question: Cut #2 on sheet E7 and the specifications call for cable tray and Cat6 cable to be pulled. However, there is no demarcation point. Where is this located?

A14. Answer: “Telecom Room 126” is 20 feet straight north of the expanded Office. Figure 45 feet of cable tray from the Office to the Telecom Room, which would cover from the south wall of the Office to the north wall of the Telecom Room.

Q15. Question: Regarding the Mechoshades at the office windows. I see the elevation in section A3 of sht A6 for (1) new window, is this typical of all (6)?

Would it be possible to have elevation with dimensions of these (6) windows?

A15. Answer: Three of the new glazing elements are noted on the Sheet A4 Floor Plan and Sheet A6, A3 Window Elevations as one at “DD” and two at “AA”. The other new glazing to receive a shade is the sidelight to the new Office Door 103B with Frame “5” in A4 Door and Frame Elevations, Sheet 6.

The two existing are vertically stacked sidelights to the existing Door 103A to remain. The exposed glass on these are Upper: 37 3/4” high x 22 ¾” wide and LOWER: 33 ¾” high x 22 ¾” wide. All must be field verified by the contractor.
