Text version

Long Haul Fusion Splicer Fusion splicers are required in order to repair fiber optic cable and install new fiber optic cable. Repairing damaged fiber and installing new fiber is one of the main mission sets for the 1137th. Depending on the distance the cable covers changes the type of splicer required.

Long haul fusion splicer kits are designed to repair fiber cable that covers a distance over 3.5 miles.

This kit includes the below items:

Short Haul Fusion Splicer Kit Short haul fusion splicer kits are designed to repair fiber cable that cover a distance less than 3.5 miles.

This kit includes the below items:

CUI

Duct Rodder Duct rodders are used by cable teams to fish mule tape through conduit. They’re made of fiber glass and extremely durable. Once a technician feeds the duct rodder through, they’ll tie off using the mule tape and pull that through. The technician will tie the mule tape to the fiber optic cable and use the mule tape to pull the fiber through the conduit.

CUI

Fiber Installers Tool Kit The fiber installers tool kit is what the technician uses to clean and prepare the glass in the fiber optic cable for termination. It also includes tools in the event a hot melt fiber application is identified once in theater.

This would be the equivalent of a mechanics hand tool kit for manual preparation of the fiber.

CUI

FIS Fiber Optic Basic Tool Kit Unlike the previously mention fiber installers kit, this kit has additional hand tools to assist prior to prep kit usage. Some items on each list are duplicates due to the sensitivity of the tools. Any damage and even routine usage can degrade the quality of work which can significantly compromise the integrity of the connection.

*Compare to mechanic tool kit *Linemans tool kit is above ground, working on poles, etc, Unit has 2 other LINs that are electronic tool kits (non-FIBER)

CUI

Electric Tool Kit These tools are required for various reasons. Technicians will encounter times where room penetration is required, material needs cut and built to support communications equipment and so forth. Almost every mission will require some form of cutting or drilling in order to properly support the network infrastructure.
