SUMMARY OF CHANGES

SECTION SF 30 - BLOCK 14 CONTINUATION PAGE

The following have been added by full text:

BARNES BUILDING ROOF REPAIR – SITE VISIT QUESTIONS

1.) Q: What does “adjacent staging area” mean?

A: See revised specification section 01 11 00.

2.) Q: When is work anticipated to begin?

A: Early summer 2015

3.) Q: Has any testing been done for hazardous material?

A: No. Roof replacement had been done in the mid 1990s; it is not anticipated that there is any asbestos or PCBs.

4.) Q: In the drawings and specifications, is there a cross-section for roof assembly/showing composition of existing roof?

A: No. Two core samples from 5 November 2013 were taken in November 2013; see spec section 01 11 00, 1.1.3. The cores are not guaranteed to be representative of conditions throughout the entire roof.

5.) Q: Is there an infrared scan?

A: Yes; see spec section 01 11 00, 1.1.3.

6.) Q: Is parking lot 1 available for staging area?

A: See Q&A for 1) and specification section 01 50 00.

7.) Q: Is the alleyway between buildings available for staging area?

A: See 01 11 00, par. 1.5 and 01 50 00, par. 3.8.

8.) Q: What is the expected warranty for work done on the roof under this project?

A: See specification section 00 80 00, par. 1.10, specification section 07 53 23, par. 1.9.1 and 1.9.2.

9.) Q: Will the mechanical units/AC units (near the door) need to be removed and reinstalled?

A: See revised specification section 01 11 00.

10.) Q: Will a building elevator operator be required for the freight elevator?

A: No.

11.) Q: What is the timeframe for bringing a truck into the alley between the buildings?

A: Unclear on the question. See specification section 01 11 00, par 1.5 and par. 1.6.

12.) Q: Can a dumpster be brought and left in the alleyway between the buildings during the construction?

A: Dumpster cannot be placed in the alley for the entire construction duration. See spec section 01 11 00, 1.5.2.4 and 01 50 00, par. 1.4.

13.) Q: Is the alleyway Government property?

A: Yes.

14.) Q: Is parking lot 1 Government property?

A: Yes 15.) Q: Is the existing insulation on the roof tapered or flat?

A: Details of the insulation are unknown.

16.) Q: Is recaulking provided for on the bid schedule?

A: Yes; see specification section 01 22 00, par. 1.4.

17.) Q: What is the capacity of the freight elevator?

A: 6,000 lbs.

18.) Q: What floors of the building will the contractor have access to?

A: See spec section 01 11 00, par. 1.5.2.1 and par 1.5.2.2.

19.) Q: Can a crane be put in the alleyway?

A: See spec section 01 11 00, 1.5.2.4.

20.) Q: What if the ‘wet’ area extends between time of bid and time of award?

A: If there are differing site conditions, Contractor should immediately notify the Contracting Officer. If it is deemed appropriate to do additional work, the Government will negotiate a modification pursuant to "FAR 52.243-4, Changes" and "FAR 52.236-2, Differing Site Conditions”.

21.) Q: Is there any light weight fill on the roof?

A: It is unknown.

22.) Q: Are there any hazardous materials on the roof?

A: See Q&A 3.).

23.) Q: Can the screws be broken off at the concrete or do they need to be taken out completely?

A: Screws can be broken off at the top of the concrete deck.

24.) Q: Sheet A-104 Detail B. Shows drain being raised. Wouldn’t we want to sump the drain to allow water to flow into it? Also are we supposed to create a valley tapered to the drain? Or build up drain and create hip with insulation to allow water to flow away?

A: The intent is to allow water to flow to the re-installed drain by creating a tapered valley as shown on the contract drawings. However, the existing drain has been installed too low and lacks the proper substrate materials under the membrane, resulting in an unsafe area to walk and improper tapering of the insulation. Raising the drain and installing the proper substrate will improve the existing condition.

25.) Q: Bidding schedule 0001-0006 Part of bid documents dated Feb, 2015. Should our pricing be based off of these quantities?

A: Yes; see Section 00 80 00, par. 1.5.

26.) Q: Caulking is listed in the bid docs but there is no line item on the bid form.

A: See Q&A 16.)

27.) Q: How thick is the proposed insulation?

A: See Q&A 4.)

28.) Q: A105/ A106 show ballast description. Three different weights are needed at different locations, 40 PSF, 60 PSF and 90 PSF which we need to engineer. Detail indicates "continuous ballast using sand bags wrapped into continuous banks(100' roll length minimum) of polyester net and connected together". How are we expected to handle a 9,000 LB sandbag? I believe Note 2 clarifies that we are to use many multiply sandbags that get wrapped in netting to keep them all together. Please confirm.

A: The specified ballast load is to be constructed by stacking multiple 50-pound sand bags.
