DESCRIPTION OF BID ITEMS:
General This section comprises an explanation of the bid items identified in the bid schedule. All work specified herein shall be accomplished in accordance with the procedures prescribed in the technical provisions of the specifications and the plans/details as shown on the contract drawings. Some drawings are identified below to reference general locations and detail information for various bid items, however other drawings, details and specifications also apply. The Contractor shall bid each type of work under the applicable bid item. Any item of work described in the contract but not listed in the bid schedule shall be included in the item of work to which it is made subsidiary.
Item No. 0001 The work includes repainting 14 static displays of supported ground and naval base weapons systems at the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) after 10 years of outside display. The old paint has begun to fail, and rust has begun to show. As such loose rust on the displays will need to be removed by wet power washing, by using hand tools and by mechanical means before more invasive methods of surface preparation are needed. Capture and clean up all rust and paint debris removed as well as power washing under the static display. Air/Abrasive blasting methods are not required and will not be approved. All debris from the preparation and cleaning of displays must be collected. After surface preparation, the displays will be spot primed with rust converter and recoated to match the existing conditions (e.g. color, patterns, insignias, etc.).
One display is a ship screw from a destroyer and is of brass like material with a clear coat on it. Cleaning, polishing, and recoating of this display will be slightly different from painting the others. Include painting the black display signposts and any painted vehicle support stands or display mounts in the project.
