9.2.1. Where surface finishes are indicated on the drawings or specified herein, the symbols used or finishes specified shall be in accordance with ANSI B46.1-95. “Surface Texture (Surface Roughness, Waviness, and Lay).” Values of roughness height specified are arithmetical average deviation expressed in micro inches. Roughness specified is the maximum value and any lesser will be satisfactory unless otherwise called for on the drawings. Compliance with specified surface shall be determined by sense of feel and by visual inspection of the work compared to Roughness Comparison Specimens, in accordance with the provisions of ANSI B46.1. Values of roughness width and waviness height are not specified, but shall be consistent with the general type of finish specified by roughness height. Flaws such as scratches, ridges, holes, peaks, cracks, or checks which will make the part unsuitable for the intended use will be cause for rejection.

9.2.2. Where the finish is not indicated or specified, the type of finish shall be that which is most suitable for the surface to which it applies and shall be consistent with the class of fit required. Surfaces to be machine finished shall be indicated on the drawings by symbols, which conform to ANSI B46.1

9.3. Unfinished Surfaces. So far as practical, all work shall be laid out to secure proper matching of adjoining surfaces. Where there is a large discrepancy between adjoining unfinished surfaces, they shall be ground free of all projections and rough spots. Depressions or holes not affecting the strength and usefulness of the parts shall be filled in a manner approved by the Government Representitive.

9.4. Assemble Sector Gears. Existing bushings and sector arms shall be removed. The existing sector arms are property of the Government and shall be returned to the Government. Federal contract information means information, not intended for public release, that is provided by or generated for the Government under a contract to develop or deliver a product or service to the Government, but not including information provided by the Government to the public (such as on public Web sites) or simple transactional information, such as necessary to process payments.

Information means any communication or representation of knowledge such as facts, data, or opinions, in any medium or form, including textual, numerical, graphic, cartographic, narrative, or audiovisual (Committee on National Security Systems Instruction (CNSSI) 4009).

Information system means a discrete set of information resources organized for the collection, processing, maintenance, use, sharing, dissemination, or disposition of information (44 U.S.C. 3502).

Safeguarding means measures or controls that are prescribed to protect information systems.

(b) Safeguarding requirements and procedures.

(c) Subcontracts. The Contractor shall include the substance of this clause, including this paragraph (c), in subcontracts under this contract (including subcontracts for the acquisition of commercial items, other than commercially available off-the-shelf items), in which the subcontractor may have Federal contract information residing in or transiting through its information system.
