SCOPE OF WORK

Scope of work Jib Crane Installation

Brookville Lake Control Tower, Brookville, Indiana

SECTION 1

General Requirements: The contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, supplies, tools and equipment necessary to install a wall mounted jib crane, hoist, engineered lift point, ladder, and work platform at the Brookville Lake Control Tower in accordance with attached specifications. The contractors work and responsibility shall include all planning, administration, supervision, communications, and quality control necessary to assure that all services are conducted in accordance with the contract requirements and applicable with all Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations. The Corps of Engineers shall provide use of the existing Overhead Hoist (7.5 ton capacity) and will provide an operator. The contractor shall provide a licensed rigger and signal person for all Overhead Hoist operations. All services will be completed as scheduled with the Park Manager. It is the contractor’s responsibility to take measurements and calculate/estimate the dimensions of the work site in preparations of their offer. Jib crane must meet AISC Steel Construction Manual Standards, OSHA 1910.179 standards, and ASME B30.11 and be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's best practices. Hoist must meet ASME B30.16 standards and shall be operationally tested and load tested in accordance with manufacturers recommended procedures and the US Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual EM 385-1-1, Section 16.

Period of Performance: All work shall be completed within 75 calendar days of Notice to Proceed.

1. The contractor shall provide and install a permanent 2 ton wall mounted, tie rod supported jib. The mast shall have a span between 15 and 20 feet (depending on location) and be equipped with stops to limit trolley movement. Jib crane shall be designed to provide a minimum of 15% factor of rated load for hoist and trolley weight. Jib crane shall be equipped with a festoon trolley system for support of electrical connectors to hoist. Exact mounting location will be coordinated with project staff and approved by a registered structural engineer. Approximate location is identified on attached photo A. The jib will be attached approximately 18’ high but must be able to lift a combined 55” lifting beam and 72” bulkhead over a 42” railing. See photos A&B.

2. The contractor shall provide and install an under slung, heavy duty 2 ton electric chain hoist with trolley onto the contractor supplied jib. Contractor is responsible to ensure hoist trolley is compatible with flange width of jib crane. Hoist shall be supplied by 230vac-3 phase-60hz, H4 Duty Class. Hoist shall provide a true vertical lift of 120 ft. minimum and include a hanging chain containment bag. The hoist shall have a two-speed or variable maximum speed lift of minimum of 11 feet per minute. Control of hoist shall be from a radio remote control to provide full operation of hoist and trolley functions. Hoist shall also have a wired pendant for backup operations of sufficient length to operate from a 15 foot radius of the hoist and provide 2 speed control of hoist and trolley and contain an Emergency Stop button.

3. The contractor shall provide for all electrical requirements. A disconnect switch and receptacle shall be installed to allow for removal of hoist. The receptacle will match existing so that the crane may be moved to other locations if necessary. All wiring shall be ran through conduit equivalent to conduit currently install on site. A site visit is strongly encouraged prior to submitting quotes to determine disconnect and conduit location.

4. The contractor shall design and construct a permanent platform attached to the Control Tower with ladder access and fall protection to allow for the attachment and servicing of the trolley and hoist to the jib crane.

Dimensions of platform shall allow enough room to remove and install the 2 ton hoist and allow for maintenance. Location will be determined with consultation by project personnel.

5. The contractor shall provide and install a permanent 1 ton engineered lift point above the beam and accessible to the work platform. The lift point shall be labeled for capacity and will be permanent so the location shall not interfere with the movement of the jib crane and shall be dimensioned so that no interference will occur with the control tower wall when installing the hoist. The lift point shall be certified by a registered engineer and have a working load limit safety factor of 5:1. Design shall be similar to 1-Ton Hoist Bracket Detail.

6. The contractor shall provide a 1 ton chain hoist which will remain the property of USACE at contract completion to install the hoist and trolley onto the jib crane.

7. The contractor shall supply Operation and Maintenance (O&M) training for at least four (4) on-site personnel. The contractor shall supply two (2) each copies of the manufacturer’s O&M manuals for the system and each piece of equipment including operating instructions, programming instructions/settings, calibration, maintenance instructions, parts lists, test procedures, and wiring diagrams and any other information necessary to operate and maintain the system.

Example of wall mounted jib crane – wall bracket (tie-rod supported boom)

Example of a 3rd floor jib crane installation with platform

Possible location of new jib and hoist (Photo A) 55”lifting beam and 72” bulkhead (photo B)

Additional Information Distance from floor to top of beam on wall mounted jib crane.

Measurement may vary depending on brand name, size and/or dimension of the equipment that will be installed. The handrail is 42" from the floor to the top rail. The bulk head with lifting beam have a combined length of 127”. The contractor must account for beam, trolley, hoist and basket when making a height determination. The bulkhead will need to clear the handrail by a minimum of two (2) feet.

No access to the floor with a scissor type lift or aerial lift.

Scaffolding must be used, there is no access for a powered lift. The use of the Overhead Crane can be used for a lifting device. The rigger will need to be a licensed rigger. To the right of the handrail in Photo A, there is adequate room for standard scaffolding. However, towards the concrete wall the walkway is only 40” wide.

Access to the facility.

There is limited access and the contractor will need to be accompanied by project personnel. A site visit is recommended.

Overall height of the new access fixed ladder to the work platform required in the scope of work.

Measurement may vary depending on brand name, size and/or dimension of the equipment that will be installed.

Example photos of similar outside jib cranes have been provided in Section 1. The overall height would also depend on the engineers design for the equipment being used. The jib crane will need to be easily accessed for maintenance and removal.
