The senior leadership of the Army has proclaimed August as the Army’s Anti-terrorism Awareness month.
The purpose is twofold.
1. The Army Anti-terrorism Awareness initiative is to increase awareness of the potential threats to our personnel and facilities face from Al-Qaida and ISIS, its affiliates and allies and homegrown violent extremists.
2. Anti-terrorism awareness serves as the basis of understanding terrorist tactics and operations and the individual protective measures to reduce personal vulnerability to terrorism.
Every member of the St. Louis District plays an important role in preventing terrorist acts. By embedding anti-terrorism principles and concepts throughout our plans and programs, we protect MVS’s critical resources from acts of terrorism.
By understanding the indicators of potential terrorist activities and reporting suspicious behavior to local law enforcement, our community members serve as “sensors” and enhance and extend MVS’s protection posture.
All MVS military, civilian, volunteers and contractors are encouraged to increase awareness of the potential threats to our personnel and facilities and to report any suspicious activity to their respective Security Offices.
August is Anti-terrorism Awareness Month
Surveillance - Recording or monitoring activities, taking pictures, making drawings.
Elicitation - Attempts to gain information about operations, staffing and security.
Tests of security - Any attempts to measure reaction times to entering restricted areas.
Acquiring supplies - Obtaining explosives, weapons, uniforms, badges, credentials, etc.
Suspicious (or out of place) persons - This may include people who are in places they should not be, as well as people who do not fit in to the daily routine of your community.
Dry or trial run - Putting people into position and moving them around without actually committing a terrorist act.
Deploying assets - People and supplies getting into position to commit an act.
Funding - Suspicious transactions involving large amounts of cash and criminal activity.
Eight signs of terrorism
