4 III. SPECIFICATIONS REGARDING
DREDGING AND OPERATION OF DREDGE
MATERIAL PLACEMENT SITES
A. To the extent feasible, all Maintenance Dredging will be performed using Hydraulic Pipeline Cutterhead Dredges, as described in Chapter 2.22 of the Corps’ Engineer Manual for Engineering and Design of Dredging and Dredged Material Management dated 31 July 2015 (“Engineer Manual”). Mechanical Dredges, per Chapter 2.26 of the Engineer Manual, will be used in Maintenance Dredging only where limited access or large debris prevents use of a Hydraulic Pipeline Cutterhead Dredge. In such instances, the District will use only sealed buckets and clamshells.
1.3.1 Dredging
Per NMFS
1.3.1 Dredging
All dredging will be performed using a hydraulic cutterhead suction dredge and all dredged material and dredge slurry will be deposited at a previously authorized DMPS via pipelines.
Q3. Regarding the dredging, can the contractor utilize a mechanical clamshell dredge to load hopper barges, transport to the disposal areas, and then hydraulically unload into the disposal areas?
No, dredging is allowed using hydraulic cutterhead dredge as specified in Section 01 11 00.

1.4 QUANTITIY OF MATERIAL
The total estimated amount of material to be removed from the specified limits, but excluding overdepth prisms, is 235,000 cubic yards. The maximum amount of allowable overdepth dredging is estimated to be 238,000 cubic yards.
The estimated quantity for bidding purposes and for application of the FAR 52.211‐18 Variation in Estimated Quantity shall be 330,100 cubic yards, which is the total quantity including paid overdepth. The quantities listed are estimates only. Within the limits of available funds, complete the work specified whether the quantities involved are greater or less than those estimated.
Q1. Can the Government clarify the overdredge volume? 330,100 cy minus 235,000 cy equals 95,100 cy, not 238,000 cy. Is the 95,100 cy the overdepth volume below the grade volume?
The total volume to be dredge for each reach as shown on the pricing schedule (00 10 00) includes the allowable paid overdepth except reach 17.
Updated bid quantities have been provided as amendment.
The revised paragraph 1.4 of Section 35 20 23 is attached to the responses.
8 Section 00 10 00
Section 00 10 00 Pricing Schedule
Plan Set (See Questions 2, 3 below):
Q2. It appears reach 9 is duplicated on the plans and reach 10 is omitted. Can the Government please clarify?
Drawing for reach 9, 10, 16, and 17 is attached.
Q3. It appears reach 17 is omitted from the plans.
Can the Government please provide the plan sheet outlining the dredging area for reach 17? Also, the specifications indicate there is no paid overdepth for reach 17. Is there a non‐pay tolerance associated with the sediment trap and will a representative cross section be provided or can it be further defined?
Drawing for reach 9, 10, 16, and 17 is attached.
Reach 17 is to be dredged to the required depth of -40 ft MLLW only.
