About this file

This document is an Amendment (0001) to a federal solicitation for Almen Strips, modifying the original solicitation W912NW25Q0042 issued by the Army Contracting Command - Redstone. The amendment extends the offer due date from 6 March 2025 to 1 April 2025, renumbers the Contract Line Items (CLINs), and updates the Salient Characteristics section for A-1S and N-1S Almen Strips. The contract is a 100% small business set-aside for an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) agreement to procure 15,000 A-1S and 15,000 N-1S Almen Strips annually for five years, to be delivered to the Shot Peen Branch at Corpus Christi Army Depot.

The Almen Strips must conform to Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) J442 standard, with specific requirements for thickness, flatness, and hardness. A-1S strips are for medium intensity applications (0.051" thick, 45-48 Rockwell C hardness), while N-1S strips are for low intensity applications (0.031" thick, HRA 72.5-76.0 hardness). Detailed storage and handling instructions are provided, including recommendations for climate control (65°-75°F, 20-60% relative humidity) and preservation using Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) packaging. The strips will be used to verify shot peening intensity in accordance with CCAD Process Standard I.02.

BOXED ALMEN STRIPS

Do not remove the shrink wrap covering the box of strips until the strips are used.

Do not discard the VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) paper after opening the box. VCI paper is a very effective material for preventing rust and corrosion.

Return unused strips to the original EI box and replace the VCI paper, making sure the unprinted side of the paper is in contact with the strips.

BULK ALMEN STRIPS IN BAGS

Electronics Inc. packages bulk Almen strips in blue VCI polyethylene bags. In addition, EI places a 12” x 12” sheet of VCI paper in the bags.

The Almen strips should remain in the blue bag until the time of use. Always return unused strips to the VCI bag and replace the VCI paper, making sure the unprinted side of the paper is in contact with the strips.

Before returning Almen strips to storage, close the blue VCI bag. Fold the leaves of the box to close it tightly or tape the box shut. Do not leave the strips open to the environment.

RECOMMENDED CLIMATE CONTROL

Avoid major temperature changes when storing or using Almen strips. In particular, do not move strips from a warm environment to a cold one. This can cause condensation on the surface of the strips

Recommended storage conditions are 65°-75°F (18˚C-24˚C) and a 20% – 60% relative humidity.
