MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD FROM: 122MSG/MSC
SUBJECT: Brand Name Request for Shipping/Storage Containers: W912L9-18-Q-5001
In accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), the following documents the determination for a brand name request.
1. A brand name request is approved for the following reasons:
2. The following Market Research has been accomplished:
| Text1: AAR Mobility Systems is the sole manufacturer of the ISU container (Internal Airlift Slingable Container Unit) which has become a standard for equipment storage and mobility in and out of deployed/expeditionary environments. The 122FW uses many ISU brand containers and many of AAR's ISU configurations are widely available through their GSA Schedule contract. Prices have been and are easily determined to be fair and reasonable and the continuity of storage capabilities and mobility of storage containers are themes which 122FW personnel consider critically important for the sake of their operations. | |
| Text2: Internet research for mobility containers does not reveal a wide selection of sources which can provide the known quality/function of AAR products. Storage and shipping containers of all kinds are widely available from many sources, but AAR is a proven industry-leader and military provider of this type of equipment designed specifically for military operations. Additionally, AAR containers are the preferred solution for many other Air Force units. Given the risks to mission success in deployed environments, market research indicates that ISU brand containers, while not the only containers available, are the best alternative and therefore the best value for U.S. military operations. | |
