Question and Answers
****Reminder this is a commercial item purchase not a construction contract. Vendor is responsible for field verification and installation. The government has provided estimates only. ******
1. How far away is the Maintenance Shelter to the Airfield Operations Building?
About 300'.
2. Will you stage materials when they arrive upon delivery? (set pallets/skids in designated areas) This depends on the size/weight of the skids. We have a tractor with fork tines that we can use to position materials if they do not exceed the capacity of the tractor (500lbs). If we need a larger forklift, we can coordinate for that if we know the date and load requirements ahead of time.
3. Please confirm if the existing cages have ceilings?
I think in the interest of safety, it is better if we disassemble the existing cages, clear the area for the mezzanine build, and remove the floor anchors. We will then reassemble the cages under the mezzanine once it is built and re-anchor them in their new locations. With that said, we need to ensure that the mezzanine provides a sufficient footprint under it to reassemble the cages between post bases, etc.
4. If they have ceilings, can they be removed? N/A. See above.
5. If cannot be removed, can they be walked on? N/A. See above.
6. Can we drive scissor lift inside cages to work? Yes. See above.
7. Will the cages be free & clear? N/A. See above.
8. “Proposed Mezzanine Side View” Drawing – Mentions existing cage to be moved to accommodate mezzanine. Are you making this move before mezzanine Installation? N/A. See above. Or, Do we need to include this in our bid?
9. Is industrial enamel finish acceptable?
ANSWER: Yes
10. What code should we build the steps to?
ANSWER: I'd have to research this a little more. We were looking for something that was OSHA compliant but I don't know enough about Indiana Construction Codes to answer this at the moment.
11. What type of resindek do you want?
ANSWER: From what I've seen online, the ideal ResinDek Panel Grade would be the ResinDek LD (3/4"); Live & Dead Pallet Jack Loads Permitted: Foot Traffic and up to 2,000lbs Total Load
12. Can you please clarify if the mezzanines will be installed over existing wire security cages?
ANSWER: The existing wire security cages will be moved by the customer prior to installation. Once installation is complete, the customer will move the cages under the mezzanine.
13. The drawings and specifications provided have conflicting dimensions for mezzanine no. 2. The specifications state that the structure is to be 12’-6”x 17’. The plans show the structure to be 13’-6” x 18’. Could you verify which is correct?
There are minor obstructions on two of the walls that prevent the frame of the structure from being completely flush against those two walls. So the frame of the structure would be approximately 12’-6”x 17’. However, we would like the floor to extend out so it would be flush with those walls. That is what the second measurement was intended to show (13’-6” x 18’).
14. Does Mezzanine #1 require a landing at the top of the stair?
- A landing would allow the stair to parallel the 11’ side. Without a landing, the stair would go straight up along the wall and onto the mezzanine.
ANSWER: NO. We prefer the stairs go straight up along the wall and onto the mezzanine.
15. Our mezzanines are all designed by professional engineers (PE) in accordance with the manufacturers design standards. Some customers require that we provide design calculations and drawings sealed by a PE registered in the project State. There is an extra charge for that.
Do you require design calculations and drawings sealed by an Indiana-registered Professional Engineer? (Or just the manufacturer’s standard PE design?)
ANSWER: NO.
16. The sketch on page 5 of the solicitation includes a note “Existing cage would be moved +/- 20” to accommodate mezzanine structure”.
Will that be done by the customer, or do we include moving the existing cage in our installation price?
ANSWER: Existing cages will be moved by customer prior to the installation of the mezzanine.
