About this file

This document is a Description of Requirement (DOR) for a Fiber Optic Interrogator. The government is seeking a multi-channel fiber optic interrogator capable of reading both strain and temperature continuous fiber optic sensors that can withstand 300°C. The interrogator must include data visualization software, 15 strain sensors, 5 temperature sensors, remote modules, training, and a 3-year warranty. The interrogator and sensors must integrate with the Luna 3DVIZ software.

This DOR is related to a federal contract opportunity under Solicitation Number W912HZ24Q0572. The opportunity is a Request for Quote (RFQ) for a Fiber Optic Interrogator, set aside for small businesses under NAICS code 335921. Quotes are due by June 25, 2024 and the government intends to award a contract to the lowest priced, technically capable offeror without discussions. The delivery location is the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, MS, and the system must be delivered within 90 days of contract award.

Description of Requirement Fiber Optic Interrogator

Specificaons:

The GSL requires a Fiber Optic Interrogator for research and development on the integration of fiber optic strain sensors into additively manufactured parts. The interrogator must be multi-channel, with 4 channels, and the capability to add more sensing channels with a minimum of 8.

The interrogator must have the capability to interface with custom sensors, which can be achieved via an add-on if needed, but must be included in the quote. The interrogator must be able to read both strain and temperature continuous fiber optic sensors. The fiber optic sensors must be able to withstand 300 C. The data visualization software must be included and provide real-time visuals of strain and temperature for the relevant sensor, and data collection from the sensors must allow for exporting to an excel, csv or txt file.

The following must be included in the quote:

• 15 1 m continuous strain sensors with required connectors and end terminals for use with the fiber optic interrogator

• 2 2 m continuous strain sensors with required connectors and end terminals for use with the fiber optic interrogator

• 5 1 m continuous temperature sensors with required connectors and end terminals for use with the fiber optic interrogator

• Remote modules and 10-25 m standoff cables equal in number to the number of channels (i.e., if there are 4 channels, 5 remote modules)

• Training and installation

• Custom keying capabilities to use custom fiber optic sensors

The sensor and interrogator must have a resolution of 0.1 µε and an instrument accuracy of ± 1 µε and measurement uncertainty less than or equal to ± 5 µε with capability of measuring +/- 15,000 µε. The temperature measurement resolution must be less than or equal to 0.25 C, with an uncertainty less than 1.8 C.

Shipping costs must be included in the quote with a delivery address.

Delivery Location:

US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) 3909 Halls Ferry Road Bldg. 6000 Vicksburg, MS 39180

If installation by the supplier is required, it must be included in the quote.

Technical support during the installation and initial testing process must be provided within 2-3 business days and additional support outside of the initial testing process must be provided within 5 business days. A training after installation is also required at the ERDC Vicksburg Site.

A 3-year warranty must be included in the quote which covers any system related malfunctions and defects. The system must be provided to ERDC on or before 90 days from the contract award date. The interrogator and sensors must be capable of providing input data into the Luna 3DVIZ software for mapping of strain to specific geometries.
