Description of Requirement

Cables Purchase

Requirement: Survivability Engineering Branch requires two sizes of instrumentation cable.

1. Specifications for nominal 1/4” Instrumentation Cable

SUMMARY: Needed an instrumentation cable with 4 conductors of 21 AWG (min.), or with equivalent Electrical Characterizes at a smaller ga. cable, Stranded (19x #34, preferred) Tinned Copper (TC, required), Polyethylene Conductor Insulation (required), with Single Braid TC Shield (24x4x #34 AWG, preferred), and PVC Jacket. Total length of 120,000-ft to be delivered in spools of continuous lengths of 2,500 to 5,000-ft.

Additional information below.

Electrical Characteristics

Voltage breakdown: Withstand 2.0kV@60Hz for 1 min.

Insulation Resistance @ 500V: 15,000 MegOhm/1000ft minimum

Shield Resistance: 10 ohm/1000ft maximum

Conductor Resistance: 15 ohm/1000ft maximum

Capacitance*@ 5kHz: Cs 23 pF/ft; Cp 43 pF/ft

*One Conductor to Other Conductors / Shield.

Physical Characteristics

Minimum Working Temperature Range: -40 to +90 deg C (required)

Conductor Color: Black, White, Red, and Green (required)

Conductor Insulation Material: Polyethylene (minimum of 0.015”thickness)

Jacket Material (Color): PVC (White or Grey)

Jacket thickness: 0.040” nominal thickness (manufactures specify tolerances)

Shield and % coverage: Single Braid TC (24x4x#34, preferred) with nominally 87% coverage or similar/equivalents will be considered

Inner Core/Cabling Configuration: Tape (between Conductors and Shield) should be a min.

of 0.001” transparent Polyester with a min. of 50% overlap.

2. Specifications for nominal 1/8” Instrumentation Cable

SUMMARY: Needed an instrumentation cable with 4 conductors of 28 AWG (min.) Stranded (7x #36, preferred) Tinned Copper (TC, required), Polyethylene Conductor Insulation (required), with Polyester, and PVC Jacket. The spool lengths 2,000 to 5,000 (total requested length delivered needs to be a min. of 20,000-ft).

Total length of 20,000-ft to be delivered in spools of continuous lengths of 2,500 to 5,000-ft. Additional information below.
