The following questions and answers are provided for informational purposes only:

Question 1: Could you please tell me the OEM / Crane Manufacturer for this crane and also the Manufacturer’s Crane Serial Number? (This information is typically found on the crane nameplate displayed on the crane sign or found in the O&M Manual).

Answer: The Manufacturer is Crane Hoist Engineering Corp., Los Angeles California. The crane was designed specifically for ERDC in 1960 and has a Specification No. of 1656 from the Manufacturer. The crane does not have one specific serial number, but rather each individual part has a serial number from the manufacturer which Crane Hoist Engineering Corp. sourced the part from.

Over the years, as the crane was serviced and repaired, parts have been replaced with new ones without being recorded. Additionally, some of the original serial numbers have been lost and or damaged beyond recognition during regular use of the crane.

Question 2: Will we be to get escorted to see the crane as a visitor during the 1/17 site visit?

Or what training requirements are necessary to gain access to the facility?

Answer: Yes, you will sign in at the Visitor Center upon arriving at ERDC. Then someone will escort you to the location of the crane. Training requirements are not necessary.

Answer: Personal Protective Equipment should be boots, hard hats, harness, lanyard, and any other required equipment for climbing on top of the crane if you chose to do so.

Answer: There is not a specific brand. The crane was manufactured and installed by The Crane Hoist Engineering Corp. expressly for the US Army Corp of Engineers – Waterways Experiment Station.

Question 6: Is there any specific installation? Floor loading?

Answer: Floor loading cannot exceed 10% of the maximum allowable weight limit of the crane, which is 50-Tons.

Question 7: Are there any as-built drawings?

Answer: We are currently trying to locate drawings for the crane.

Question 8: Does it operate at all?
